Missions Conference

Join us for our Missions Conference beginning Sunday, November 7th.

Easter Egg Hunt 2010

The kids had a wonderful time celebrating the Easter season with fun activities on Saturday, April 3rd. After creating a special Easter card which was given out to members of the congregation on Sunday morning, they decorated cupcakes, gathered eggs, and played games. Most importantly, Tim Cockrell gave a short devotion on the real meaning of Easter and the hope it brings to believers. Thank you to all who helped organize this time for the kids!

Fireproof Bible Study #3 – 3/31/2010

Tonight’s lesson is entitled “Love for a Lifetime” and the chapter centers around the understanding of wedding vows and asking the question “What do your wedding vows really mean to you?” The dictionary defines the word vow as “a solemn promise, pledge, or personal commitment.” Here is what the Scripture says about vows in Ecclesiastes 5:4-5:

4When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

5Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

Don’t forget about the book “The Love Dare” as a companion to this Bible Study. This is the 40 day challenge that Caleb’s father encouraged him to use and is a great guide to putting theory into practice.

New Materials

Many new materials will be placed in the library over the coming weeks. These resources will include books, magazines, and CD’s. You will also be able to see our library holdings as I scan them into a library catalog (accessible by clicking the “Library Catalog” menu link.) This database will not tell you whether the item is checked out or not, but it will at least show you what the church library owns. This will definitely be a work in progress so I appreciate your patience.

It’s a great resource called Library Thing. In fact, I use it to catalog my personal book collection as well.

Library Updates

Just a quick update on what is going on over the next month or so in the Church Library. In order to keep better tabs on the location on materials, we are changing our circulation procedure. The resources will still be barcoded, stamped and entered into a database but additionally, we will place “old-fashioned” library cards and pockets with each resource. You will check out materials by entering your name and date on the card and placing the card in the yellow “check-out” box. This will be visible on the library shelves. You will still return your materials to the return box and the librarian will match returned books with the cards and place on the proper shelves.

Fireproof Bible Study

If you needed help in your marriage, would you know where to go?

Over 50 % of marriages in America end up in divorce. Shouldn’t Christ make a difference? Yet nearly 50% of Christian marriages end in divorce. If Christianity offers help, then the message is not being delivered. Calvary Baptist Church is pleased to offer Biblically-based, Christ-centered teaching on the home. Join us for FIREPROOF the movie in homes across the area on March 10, 2010. Then join us for the FIREPROOF Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 beginning March 17, 2010 and continuing for six weeks.
