Selection Policy
Materials will be selected which relate to the interests and concerns of church members of all ages, church staff, and ministry leaders. A primary focus will be materials that support the various church ministries. Valuable additions to the collection may include Bible study helps and materials on doctrine, Biblical ethics, Christian life, spiritual developments, evangelism and witnessing, prayer, stewardship, worship, and missions.
Recognizing that different people have different needs and that the support of multiple activities will require a variety of materials, the following criteria will be used when acquiring new materials:
- Doctrinally and Scripturally correct
- Accurate in facts
- High moral tone and positive in influence
- Reflect Christian standards of conduct
- Of high literary or technical quality
- Includes and reflects sound educational methods and aid in learning
- Author’s lives should be consistent with their writing
- Approved by the Library Director
- Books of merit that may contain doctrinal differences
Materials include printed media such as books and periodicals and audiovisual media such as audiotapes, videotapes, compact discs, DVDs and games.
Supporting our belief in the development of the individual and Christian lifestyles, the collection shall be maintained to address:
- Personal lifetime concerns such as family, marriage, childcare and child rearing, discipline, interpersonal relationships and personal improvement
- Leisure materials such as fiction and Christian fiction, sports, cooking, health and other hobbies
- Educational materials such as history, biography, and other nonfiction areas
- Theological materials such a lexicons, encyclopedias, atlases, and commentaries.
